We have ring in one house and nest in another.
Ontop, I just have a bunch of cameras from Empire connected to our Synology NAS on each house.
Never have needed to -review- the feed on these feeds - I am well aware the video quality is of much higher quality.
However, what I gain most in usability with Ring/Nest is just the -smarts software- built in
Primarily alert, person soon, etc.
For example, I was watching one video on one they caught someone staking out a car to be stolen.
They were only aware someone did a drive by walk/scope at 4AM in the morning was because the -app alert- brought this to attention.
Anyhow, just revisiting this topic.
Without getting complicated on having a NVR, open a port or vpn to the NVR , or having it on a seperate vlan, etc -
What would you recommend if someone was interested in a doorbell/overall permitter camera, did not mind running wire, POE but had the -easy app alerts- like one get's with ring/nest
