Start out by reading the Wiki in the blue bar at the top of the page. Lots of great information in there about selecting cameras, NVRs, VMS, PCs for VMS, securing everything and some how-to things as well.

Decide what your real goals are and what your expectations are. Develop a plan for camera placement and types of cameras in each location. Read everything again, revise that plan accordingly, then ask some questions. Lots of great people here that have a lot of knowledge and experience and they willingly share what they know.
