Triggered+periodic

Hi everyone,

New to BlueIris and home security in general, though I worked with a professional system for a few years (forgot the name). Anyway, I acquired a cheap Chinese camera - JOOAN 1080P bullet. I've slowly been working on the various configurations I will use before I get a few additional cameras. This camera I have setup to capture our front entry, driveway, and sidewalk. I've been able to get masked triggering working just how I need it to - capturing frames before the trigger. Everything has been working well. My problem is that I want this particular area to also do periodic recording when it has not been triggered. The system I worked on at my work would do one frame every other second unless triggered, then it would record at 5 FPS. In BI, I set triggered+periodic with the periodic settings at 1 minute, and the interval at .1 seconds which gives me three frames every minute. When I save that setting after changing it, I get a new clip showing up and it seems to record at that interval until triggered. When the trigger is over, all recording stops, and only triggered events seem to record from that point forward. The status log doesn't show any events of alarm or unusual behavior - just the trigger events and remote logins from my phone.

I'm sure it could be something I've done or am doing. Earlier I had an issue where I'd have no recordings for periods of time without a clear explanation. I also had a lot of errors accessing the clips at times. I moved the the the changeable file locations to a separate SSD (primary drive is a HD). I still had the issue, but later learned that it could be a problem with the stream. Sure enough, I had a questionable network cable. The weird thing is that I could live view the camera without artifacts or issues, but it had issues recording. Replacing the cable resolved it and I am recording again (though I did clear out everything - even removed and reinstalled. I have plenty of drive space for the new recordings. I am recording at 1080P 30/FPS, but I am also using direct to disk which, as I understand, makes things better for the CPU.

I'm running this on an extremely underutilized "server". I do run a web client that receives data from a GPS tracking device in my alzheimer's ridden father's car (he knows it's there). I'm also hosting AirVideoHD server (doing no re-encoding), and a Ubiquiti WiFi controller. I have monitoring software that tracks CPU, disc busy time, available RAM, and network throughput. I'm not coming close to any of their limits - the most utilized is my RAM, and that's at 75%, though my machine is humble as far as video processing is concerned - at i3-2100T with 4GB RAM.

Have any of you experienced this before, or have any ideas? I'd attribute possibilities to the cheap camera I bought, but using a client to view it's stream directly to my phone or iPad, there's never any visible glitches in the stream.

Thanks for any advice,
Doug
