Unexplained breaks in recording

I have a 7608NI-E2 8ch NVR with 5 x 2cd2042 4mp IP cameras setup (all are genuine UK models). I have all cameras to record continuously at the highest video quality to the 4TB WD Purple HD. However, I have noticed that every so often the cameras stop recording for some strange reason. These breaks range from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, which is not good. I was wondering if this was a known issue i.e. firmware related or is there something wrong with my setup?

On a separate note when viewing the cameras remotely from a PC via www.hiddns.com/domain the main stream shows no video but the sub-stream does. Is there a way of getting the main stream to show video remotely when you have a good internet connection?

I have the exact same problem. Same nvr, same 4tb purple hard drive and 4 cameras. Mine appears to reboot every 70ish minutes and leaves a 2 minute gap in the recording for all cameras while rebooting. I'm on firmware 3.3.4. It didn't do it initially with the original firmware but not sure if it started after the new firmware. Hope it's not a hardware or hard drive issue. I read on another forum that it could be a hard drive issue.

Chances that both our HDD being messed are slim. I think it is more probable that this might be caused by a software issue. Has anyone else noticed the issue after upgrading firmware?

Upgraded to 3.4.2, so far so good. 4 hours with no gaps. Fixed my virtual server problem too. Might want to give it a try, i'll update after it runs more.

I am running 3.4.2 also but still get the breaks. Are you able to provide a link from where you downloaded the firmware? Also was there any specific steps you took for the install? I've heard your meant to do a full reset after an upgrade as recommended by HikVision (which I didn't do).

I got it from this forum in the firmware section. I did a factory reset before install. No gaps so far since last night

How did you get on with this after you did a factory reset and upgraded firmware? Do you still get the breaks in the continuous recording?

I factory reset my NVR and the upgraded to v3.4.6 build 160405 (DS-7608NI-E2/8P). The first couple of days the recordings have been continious with no breaks, but they have started to occur again. These breaks range from 1-4 hours on all my 5 cameras. I have rebooted the NVR which is fine for a day or two but again the breaks in recording come back.

Does anyone have a similar problem? Should i reset my NVR again and reinstall the firmware?

I noticed every 1-2 hour breaks in my 2432 cam this happens during night when IR is on, I am guessing it's a POE injector issue, but haven't had a chance to troubleshoot it.

Disable UPnP and monitor for a few days. Resolves the abnormal shutdown for most.
