As some of you know, I'm installing a Hikvision DVR (7608) for remote monitoring of a vacation home. Spent several days last week pulling cable, installing the cameras, erecting a 27' high aluminum pole for my "pole cam", building a secure, welded wire "box" about 22 ft off the floor in a hangar.
@fenderman... I actually crimped all those Cat6 connectors successfully. The pole cam has about a 110' run underground (buried pvc) and to my amazement fired up and worked on the first try. So far, things have gone fairly well. Successfully accessing the Live View and Remote Playback using Ivms4500 HD on my iPad. Using a combination of 8 cameras, 1.3mp to 3.0 mp, I'm impressed with the video quality overall. With the sub stream set at low resolutions, I can live view 4 of the 8 cams simultaneously... I'm pleased considering my local upload capability is only about 1Mbps.

Further comments and questions...

1. Still need to play around with the Motion detection settings... I have the sensitivity set at 2 bars out of 5?... Any hints on what you guys are using on the Hik equipment.

2. Push Notifications to the isms 4500 hd app seem a little slow. Any hints here?

3. Can you enable TEXT messaging system somehow?

4. What exactly is EZVIZ? Do I really need it and what is the advantage of it if you have a HIK DVR?

5. Finally, still can not figure out how FTP images from the HIK7608 DVR... It doesn't appear to be an option. Can someone confirm that?

Thanks...

Dave

On item 3 - If you cellular provider (e,g. AT&T, Verizon, etc.) allows text messaging via email (e.g, 10digit@page.att.net for AT&T) you can setup in the 7608.
On item 4 - If you are familiar with Google Drive or Microsoft One Drive, these are offsite storage services that allow you to store files on the "Internet" or "Cloud" so you can access them from anywhere on the world via an Internet connection. It is a good option if you are concerned about someone "walking" away with your DVR and video surveillance footage. EZViz is Hikvision's flavor of Cloud Storage for video and tailored for use with their product & platform. Hikvision offers various options on the DVR which includes FTP, NAS, etc. When selecting a Cloud provider consider whether they will store you content securely by encrypting not only during the transfer to/from the cloud but also within the cloud as well as where it is depending on your need and application.
