Hello
I was thinking in adding a cloud backup in surveillance system to my clients, because in case of storage device destruction, it will be easy to recovery the video files and they are the most up-to-date versions possible (but not the latest one).

I have some client equipment like DVR, NVR, IP cameras that have the option to upload files via FTP protocol and there are many services of file sharing that offers FTP upload and unlimited storage for free to keep files for 30-90 days. Like depositfiles, uptobox, 1fichier to name a few.

But seems that this type of service for CCTV backup is not very popular, I can't find google hits by searching for this use case.

I am aware that the use of FTP will send data over a plain text connection, maybe its possible to use a FTPS connections.

Anyone has the same idea or tried it?

Thanks!

Using a free file-sharing service for backing up data can be a bit of a mixed bag. I've tried a few myself, and here's what I've found: they're okay for sharing files now and then, but I wouldn't rely on them solely for backing up important stuff.
Here's the deal - services like backup for google workspace have specific features for backup and recovery that are designed to keep your data safe. They might cost a bit, but they're worth it if you've got important stuff you can't afford to lose.
Free services can be good for quick sharing or storing non-critical files, but remember, you often get what you pay for. When it comes to backups, it's worth investing in something solid.
