I've seen some other people talk about this on some other forums. The main complaint i've seen is that the video is only for "varification" purposes. All it does is let the central monitoring station verify that someone "appearing" to be committing a crime is there when the alarm has been triggered. There are a LOT of companies that offer things like audio monitoring and the like who listen in when the alarm trips to listen for things breaking, people talking, etc. The system itself seems like a pretty standard wireless system with GSM communication. I'm not sure of the price point of the system, but my guess is it comes at a premium.

My personal advice... Look at the Honeywell Lynx systems. They support standard POTS phone line connection but also have both GSM and Wi-Fi modules for monitoring and they offer Total Connect 2.0 which is the remote application monitoring for your phone/pc.

Personally I have an older Lynx 5100 system with Cellular and Wi-Fi monitoring via GeoArm with total connection 2.0 remote access for $18 a month - no contract and i purchased and own all the hardware furthermore the panel is not locked or proprietary to anyone so if I don't want someone to monitor it and only want local protection no problem, if I want to change monitoring companies monthly, no problem.

Again, I don't know the VideoFied hardware personally, but from what I've seen on there site and other forums I don't believe they offer anything "earth shattering" to demand a premium.

Also if you do look to get the Lynx system - look at Ebay and other online stores as you can find prepackaged systems or part them together for exactly what you need for a great deal. Don't buy without looking around as the exact same hardware varies in price because some people are extremely greedy and try to capitalize when it comes to "feeling safe" security products.

I do have experience with videofied systems. They are great for verification or to protect enclosed and remote areas. You have two choices. 1, Monitored by a central station or self monitored but the service is still provided by a dealer. You can not self monitor with out a central station or dealer. Retail price for a camera is about $400. But to make the system complete you need a panel and keypad.
