I previously got some great advice from this thread:
Help improve my 2 MP starlight footage
about how to access the web interface on my DH-IPC-HFW5231E-Z12 bullet cam, but have now run into a whole heap of problems, so am starting a new thread on that in consideration for the OP.

In brief, after making some changes to the cam's shutter settings and some other settings that aren't replicated in the NVR's web interface, I awoke this morning to find that the camera had gone offline since about 0300hrs, and I've since had the devil's own job of getting the NVR to talk to the camera again. This necessitated a complete hard reset to the cameras configuration.

I suspect this may be due to a web interface conflict, but would someone please confirm that if I am NOT using the camera's built-in SD card slot to store recordings, then I should ONLY use the NVR's Web interface to make any settings adjustments?

Cheers
Nigel

You should be able to make camera setting changes from either your NVR, on the camera directly (via its web interface), or by using one of the Dahua apps that you can run on your computer/smartphone. Mix and match, shouldn't matter.

If it happens again, you might try (just for troubleshooting) unplugging the Internet connection for your network and seeing if that has any affect. There have been times where cameras acting like you described were unknowingly being accessed from the Internet, either by port-forwarding or the accidental enabling of the Setting > Network> uPNP option.

That's good to know.

Interesting. However, I've checked the uPNP settings in both the NVR and IPCAM web interfaces, and both are showing as Disabled.
I'm about to go away again for about a week, so won't have too much time to pursue this line just now. But again, my grateful thanks for chipping in once more. If i find a remedy, then I'll be sure to post back.
Best regards
