Western Digital Ultrastar 6TB HDD issue

I've acquired a 6TB WD Ultrastar HDD, which was in a NAS setup. When I plugged into NVR first time, it came up uninitialised. When i click on intitlise, it goes upto 20% and then fails. Says abnormal. I know the HDD was working fine in the NAS originally.

Does anyone have any suggestions, does the disk need to be wiped and formatted on a PC on something before installation in a NVR?

check S.M.A.R.T. status of disk (main screen -> MAINTAIN -> disks -> S.M.A.R.T icon)..
high error rates or bad health state means disk is damaged..

perhaps the drive size exceeds the limits of designed max capacity of the NVR?
