What Axis Camera Stream Config do you use w/BI… GOP, FPS,

Curious what people are using for settings when using Axis Cameras with BI.

I’m very familiar with BI but looking to add it as redundancy to an Axis ACS Edge setup, which is very rudimentary and offers little to tinker with. So I want to optimize the streams for BI.

If I’m using 15 or 20fps, then what would be a good GOP? Also 15/20, the same as the fps? used to using i-frames rather than GOP. What would be the suggested interval to decrease if I needed more I-frames for better performance? (20 —> 10?).

I imagine features like dynamic FPS and GOP should be turned off.

Zipstream off?

When you add an Axis camera to ACS Edge, it creates a custom stream profile under System- Stream Profiles. For whatever reason, those stream settings add additional compression than the default settings on the camera. ACS Edge uses those stream profiles. I recommend using the camera's default streaming settings and adjusting only if needed. Adjust the FPS to 15 (default is 30), P-frames- 61, compression- 30, Zipstream- Low, Optimize for Storage, Dynamic FPS and Dynamic GOP all set to off, bitrate control set to variable. I also recommend turning on signed video.

I suggest changing using those settings in the stream profile for ACS Edge also.

The only issue you may have with BI is that you aren't going to have an I-frame for every FPS. So they key frames will not equal 1. I briefly had my Axis cameras on BI and I did not notice any issues during that short period.

You can also create additional streams under System- Stream Profiles that are just for BI. This way if you need different settings for BI and ACS Edge you can create separate stream profiles for each VMS.

How many cameras do you have on ACS Edge and what are the model numbers?

If you want a more advanced VMS, you can download 90-day free trial of ACS Pro from Axis's website and see if that meets your needs.
