What is H264+ ?

I noticed newer units have that as an option. Anyone knows what does it do?

I wonder if that's the same thing as H.264H? My Dahua defaulted to that setting.

Perhaps it's improved compression somewhere between H.264 & H.265. It's an drop down option below H.264 selection. I tried briefly, but was getting green image, so I disabled it for now. Will troubleshoot later. Time to mount the bad boys.

I thought H264+ was used for better compression to save on space but still maintain the image quality?

Someone said in another thread that h264H, the H might mean High Profile.
Not sure exactly what that would be, I looked online the other day but didn't find anything on it.

H264+ on mine appears to be using average bit-rate (so a variant of variable bit-rate).

The problem I'm having is playing it back and converting it. The Hikvision player doesn't support it! Not surprised by that though...

H.264+ i something like AXIS Zipstream. Dahua H.264H is just High Profile of H.264.
Camera with H.264+ generates 30-70% less bitrate that H.264 High Profile so it looks good. No details lost comparing to standard H.264, and standard NVRs can decode it (as opposite to H.265).

But the problem is that VSPlayer can't play it or convert it, right now :/ also iVMS-4200 is not compatible with this codec, so we have to wait for now and use it only on NVR.

I tried using the + and it's not very usable, the image gets distorted either it shows up in all green or tv grain noise. Probably it requires too much processing.

That's because you need the correct player (and codec) to play it. Hence me asking for a download link for the VSPlayer beta.

I was playing via Chrome browser, but I didn't actually update Webcomponents which should probably have that codec.

It could be just firmware. I got this in 5.3.3 in my new 2CD2142FWD-IWS

That helped but still not very good... the green corrupt bits are now just black. So it didn't record very well either. I hope the new firmware sorts this out.

I wish they just release the codec so I could play it with whatever I want and can edit it how I want too.
