Can someone please enlighten me? Is the idea that if BI were to have an outage, you have a backup recording? I've seen some suggest that SD storage isn't reliable?

SD storage isn't reliable as a primary storage source of recordings or for continuous recording, but it makes an excellent backup as recording on motion to compliment BI in the event your computer or BI go off at the wrong time. The likelihood that your BI computer and SD card storage both go out at the same time (except for extended power outages) would be unlikely.

Personally I have found when the SD card gets full, the camera CPU can struggle with overwriting when motion is happening, so either go in periodically and reformat the SD card or set up in the camera to delete recordings after a certain number of days. Some of my cams will fill up in a week, and others are months, so it is best to see how long it takes to fill and then set it accordingly.
