What's the availability and price on the IPC-HDW5431R-Z Dahua Starlight Vari-focal Turret (4MP)?

Thats not a starlight, they suck ass compared to the real 2MP Starlights..

Thanks for pointing that out. Is 2MP the highest resolution available in the Starlight / Turret category?

yep, increase resolution and yeh decrease sensitivity to photons

What exactly is the technology that this "starlight"stuff referrs to in these cameras?
From what I have prev read, larger sensors, given same mp res, should provide better night image but that is not always true apparently.

no, definitely not.. but your looking at DSLR prices for lenses.. soo, $500+, just for the optics.. then the cameras are gonna get huge

everything has to get bigger to allow the photons through..

Dahua labels anything rated below 0.009 Lux as Starlight, these 1/2.8 size 2MP Starlights are affordable because they use standard, cheap lenses.. The backlit Starvis Sensors dramatically increase photon gathering... they use the same tech in the 6MP IMX178 camera, but its no longer a starlight based off spec sheets alone.. because they didnt make the sensor much larger

that's what I figured, possible, but horrendously expensive.

You can get a decent fixed lens for 1/2.8" sensor for like ~$10, the same lens for a 1/1.9" sensor is ~$100..

Optics can quickly become the most expensive component in a camera...

Can you post a link to the 2mp starlight you are referencing. Thanks

So that Dahau, is the one that many recommend because of the low light capabilities. I have all Hiks right now but need one more for the front or back hard and would be nice to get a good quality low light cam to compliment my hiks.

Hikvision has cameras coming out featuring the same image sensor; think they are due to start appearing in April: Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co. Ltd.

cant say how it'll compare to the Dahua's, but you can get a Varifocal Dahua for a couple bux more than these Fixed Hik's so I doubt the'll take much steam out of the Starlight Varifocal Turret.

I'd think they have to come out with a comparable motorized varifocal model to compete but time will tell, in the end, we all win, haha!

And def 2mp not 3 or 4 for front yard residential setting?

So I see they're out already $220-260. But not understanding pricing if the dahua is $170, variable focus both 2mp and ultimately no image loss w vari focus...
