Sorry, I'm not trying to be lazy but I'd like to order some 4MP cams today to take advantage of Andy's Cyber Monday discount. In a nutshell, can someone tell me what the major differences are (IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR ALREADY) and what I might expect to experience that would be different between the two? Much thanks!

Yes, I went through the two reviews and tried to get through all the followup comments. But was looking for a quick summary of differences in case I missed something.

AFAIK, same camera. IPC-T5442TM-AS is Andy's OEM model number for it and IPC-HDW5442TM-AS is the Dahua model number for it. I don't see on Dahua's website where there is a IPC-HDW5442TM-A (with no S as the end) model.

They looked pretty darn the same to me but thought there must be a glaring difference I didn't spot. Weird that Andy sells both of them if they are just about identical.

Can you post the links you're looking at?

I was going off the links provided in THIS THREAD of which you had made a post. I'm looking for turret cams that can give me more detail than my 2MP 5231's. I'm thinking about order 3 of the 4MP cams in 2.8mm.

I noted in another thread your FL settings of your varifocal are much higher than even 3.6mm. I guess I'm trying to get a wide angle view beyond my house which is why I'm looking at 2.8mm but maybe one I'll make it a 3.6mm. I understand that a lot of folks will go higher with their varifocal because they are much more focused on within their property lines or don't want to be invasive with regard to looking at their neighbors. If you have comments on that topic too I'd like to hear your opinion on 2.8 or 3.6mm which are the only choices available right now in a turret as I understand it.

In the thread you linked to, #1 and #2 in the fixed-lens turret section are the same camera.

I've got a 2.8mm 5442TM-AS-LED and a 3.6mm 5442TM-AS (that just replaced a 5231 VF that had a higher FL). The FOV with the 3.6mm is 89'. The FOV with the 2.8mm is 113' which IMO is pretty dang wide.

Try it out on the IPVM Camera Calculator V3 tool. Give it your address, add a camera to the map, set the camera to IPC-HDW5442TM-AS, position it on your property and then check out the angle + the simulated view between the two lenses.

Okay, I'll do that and see what I get. Because I have the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE with varifocal I'm spoiled (and lazy)...but, it seems I always have them zoomed out (2.7mm) for greatest FOV.

I've got the opposite problem with my 5231s -- most are zoomed in to something that's not 2.8mm, 3.6mm or 6mm. Go figure!

I just replaced a zoomed in 5231 with a 5442 (3.6mm).

Here's what it looked like with the zoomed in 5231.

Here's the 5442 (3.6mm, 89') in the same spot:

Having played around with the IPVM tool plus your pics I think I'm convinced enough to go with the 3.6mm. BTW, how much disk storage do you have for all your cams and how many frames/sec are you using?
