Why and NVR and not the computer for storage?

Depends on how much storage.
I can run two 10TB drives in mine, others can run 4, 8, 16 drives and more and connect to network storage.

Ease of use, added AI features beyond the camera, compatibility with camera features, low maintenance, reliability, some have built in network segmentation for security (vlan)

Many here also use a PC with a VMS such as Blue Iris and feel they are comparable.

Ford vs Chevy

Big Debate on the forum if an NVR versus a VMS is better

One thing we probably agree on is using a PC without a VMS software for camera recording is a poor choice. It is very inefficient that way.

But some people do run cameras sent to a PC without a VMS platform, but I am sure it is not very user friendly or efficient in recording.

And some even run cams to NVR where they are recorded and then stream the NVR channels to a PC with VMS such as Blue Iris for redundancy, bringing a Dodge into the Ford vs. Chevy debate!

Blueiris NVR conundrum

Honestly I'm a NVR guy for reasons stated.

That said, if you like tinkering with computers and need the coolest stuff, Download Blue Iris and you'll be fine.
