Is it ok or not ok to leave the ethernet cable connected to your IP camera after you have connected it to wireless? The reason I'm asking is because where I'm mounting it is hard to get to and if something happens to it I can reinstall it without having to take it down and mount it all over again. I know everyone is going to say leave it only connected to ethernet and not wireless but I had a hard time getting it connected, so I want to leave it the way is working. Thanks for any help.

Many of the cameras will have a separate IP for wireless and the ethernet port, so you could be taking up 2 IPs and sending double the data.

Thank you for your reply. It does show two different IPs for the camera in advanced Port Scanner but only the wireless one is connected to the Blue Iris Software.

Whether it goes to BI or not, if you have the camera going thru your router, it could be sending 2 streams to the internet for who knows what.

Or will bog down your router over time, or maybe overload the already small processor in the camera.

At the very least unhook it from the other end so that the ethernet is not being used at all.
