I have a IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E for a license plate reader. I set the zoom under Camera->Conditions->Zoom and Focus. There is no save button so I go back to the Conditions tab and click save. That seems to work as when I refresh the web portal, I still get a sharp image. But then a few days later, it's all blurry with the zoom and focus settings having changed. Why is this happening and how can I prevent this from happening?

Do you have the zoom set to manual or auto?

Do you have a day and night profile?

The focus is different for day and night with infrared, so if you are not running two profiles, at night the camera loses focus and then sets to a blur that then follows it to the day.

If you are running a day and night - how is it being done - via the sunrise/sunset utility a member here made or using the schedule of setting a time for day and night? The day/night radio button doesn't work like we think it would and that can cause it to go out of whack as well.

Are you using an NVR or Blue Iris or other VMS system?

Try running the license plate capture cameras in B/W 24/7/365 and leave the shutter speed the same 24/7/365. Worked for me when I was going through your problem a couple of years ago.

THIS

OR as I do, use the Schedule profile and have the camera switch to B&W/IR at least 45 min BEFORE sunset and 45 min AFTER sunrise. This works good if you're using auto or semi auto zoom
I still use this method but have since switched to Manual Zoom
