I am new here but not new to home setups or security. For years, I had Zmodo NVR setup with backup PC running BI. I had to port forward the management ports to static IPs on both BI and NVR on the router. I now replaced Zmodo with Zosi POE NVR. Got it running locally and via app off cellular. I didn’t have to punch any holes in the firewall which is strange to me. I plan to sniff the traffic but wanted to see if someone can explain how these apps work, especially when no port forwarding is taking place. Thank you in advance.

QR code. UPnP is disabled on the router. I assume if I delete the device from the app and change NVR internal IP I should reverse my mistake? I don’t plan on using NVR app if it uses P2P.

The QR code probably connects to the NVR via the serial number, so that is already out there.

Changing internal IP will do nothing.

Not allowing the NVR to access the internet is one way.

You could try changing the user and password, but with Zosi who knows, one may be able to access just with the serial number. I guess change the password and see if you can still access it via the app.

My router doesn’t have proper firewall but it does have parental controls which blocks outbound access for particular IP. Mission accomplished, NVR shows offline externally but online internally. Thank you for your help.
