Does anyone recall or still use Internet Relay Chat?

I do. I remember getting warez files from irc as well as a group for hacking DirecTV receivers.

I remember hearing about IRCs being famous showcasing pre-released versions of the Windows operating system. It remember it was also talked about in schools warning about potential predators lurking on those chat relays. South Park did an episode on it back in the the late 90's
