What hard drive to choose?

Hello,

I've been doing some research recently but I am fairly new to all this. I've ordered a NVR and IP camera but now I need a hard drive.

Here is what I've seen:

Can I get away with the cheaper drive or I am likely to be changing it all the time?

I don't need to keep much footage stored, only a couple of days previously so providing the PVR overwrites previous data then the storage amount isn't too much of a concern.
I am going for a very 'budget' setup so please keep this in mind.

Any useful advice would be appreciated. Many thanks.
 
As an eBay Associate IPCamTalk earns from qualifying purchases.
new purple without a doubt.. Seagate took there good name and shit all over it, I used to only install seagate disks 10 years ago (When all drives came with 5yr manufacturer warranty).. now I avoid em at all costs..

new CEO got appointed, then after massive restructuring they suddenly had dramatically higher failure rate than anybody else, instead of improving quality.. they reduced warranty length.. any good will I used to have towards seagate is now behind WD.

Okay, I was hoping for someone to say the cheaper drives were okay but I would rather pay the extra if the cheaper ones are much more likely to cause issues. You sound pretty confident on that and the Purple drives seem a popular drive.

So I should go with the 1TB Purple drive, there are no better options I assume..

I recently bought 1TB purple hard drive from Amazon UK for £46 with vat and delivery included! hope this helps?

I'm running a single 3TB WD Purple for my Blue Iris Storage, and twelve 3TB WD Reds for my Plex Media Storage.
Like nyar, I left Seagate long ago.

Just my $.02. (not sure how that calculates in £) :)

That's great to hear. I think that's settled then, I will buy the 1TB WD Purple drive for sure. I appreciate the advice :D

Was that snark also a sarcastic remark? Technically the name cent came from Britian, we borrowed the name to describe our penny.

Maybe I just over analyzed that snark... or missed it all together :numbness:

No sarcasm intended... Bad choice of word on my part.

For the record, "cent" meaning "hundred" has its roots in Latin, well before it became a measure of money in "Britian" [sic] or the U.S.



(Ok... that was a snark) :)
