2 days research and I have ended up registering here! Very keen on the new starlight 2mp cameras but I'm also looking for some even cheaper options for less important areas. Came across the below which looks good spec wise (sensor/lux rating) but I can't find any user reviews. I'm guessing it's not part of the new lineup, but would this be perform well given the cost? Does anyone here have any knowledge regarding this model? Cheers!

I'm curious on this as well. The low light specs look to be better than my HDW4231C-A (also 2mp) at essentially the same price. The 4231 is a decent budget low light cam.

With extra light the 4431 has comparable or at least not much worse detail to the 4231 at night and is preferable to the 4231 in the day but I think the 4231 is better at night without extra IR. So, which is better probably depends on how you weight day vs night quality and if you've added an external IR illuminator. Not sure how much better the 4233 is than the 4231 at night though.

better not buy those Chinese cams, next year dahua will freeze those cameras overseas using. Will not compatible with the NVR with new firmware. This is the news i got from dahua guys. But if you use on your PC or others, then no problem. Hikvision right now already do this as i know.

that sucks

How does one tell a Chinese camera from the others? If a camera is listed on Dahua's International site then is it okay?

I'm considering getting a HDW4233 ($66) but I don't understand why it is so much cheaper than the HDW4231 ($135). The HDW4233 has seemingly better low light performance of 0.002Lux vs 0.009Lux of the HDW4231. Why is the seemingly inferior model much more expensive? What am I missing here?

I just bought the 4233C-A and I'm testing it. Seems to have trip wire, ROI, H.265 etc. It does have a plastic base instead of metal. Don't know the answer yet.

Could you explain what is a Chinese cam and if a 4233C-A is one? New at this and don't know.

I can't find the HDW4233C listed anywhere on the Dahua International site. I only see it on the Chinese one. This would lead me to believe it is a Chinese only model.

In general, Chinese cams are only intended to be sold in China. They usually are cheaper than International or North American versions. You shouldn't expect to receive any warranty or support from the manufacturer on them. They may also be region locked or have hacked English firmware on them.

How is this camera working out for you? Any low light screen grab that you can share?

There's a post with several pictures labeled something like 4431 vs 4233. You can do a search (upper right corner of screen) just listing Bryan under member and it will pop up.
