@smiticans, Roger on the Dahua 2mp Starlight cams, 2 are already in cart cued up to purchase!

Thanks Smiticans, now I understand what those other wires are. Those 2 wires come out in a closet in where I found the Honeywell transformer for the Lynx R2, it was unconnected as well. The 2 wires use to be connected to an old 4 post POT's type phone connector, they are unconnected now.

I agree with you on the hard wired sensors being cheaper and the Vista system being more flexible. I'm a basic alarm user though and for my purposes wireless sensors are the future. I have them now and intend to continue using them. Secondly, I'm ok with the alarm being right next to the front door. Yes, even given the known security flaws this present. For all the aforementioned reasons I'm going to stick with the Lyric System.

@smiticans, I ended up getting a LiveWatch Security System which uses the popular Qolsys IQ Control Panel and accompanying sensors. The cool part is the Qolsys IQ Control Panel integrates my Honeywell 5816 Sensors saving me the cost of buying 14 new sensors.

I think you would've been better off with the Lyric, but as long as you're happy that's all that matters. If you decide to add fire protection and/or more motion detectors to your system, I would suggest sticking with the Honeywell 5800 series wireless sensors.

For what reason would you suggest sticking with the Honeywell 5800 series wireless sensors? Compatibility?

@smiticans, I've reassessed my situation based on your posts and I'm now reevauating the 20P EnvisaLink 4 solution. My biggest question is will the EnvisaLink 4 work with the 20P and all my Honeywell 5816 wireless zones? I've posted this question at the EnvisaLink forum as well, I have yet to receive a response.

Yes it will. You will need a wireless receiver (5881ENH or 6160RF) in order to use wireless sensors. They will be programmed on zones 9-48. Zones 1-8 are reserved for hardwired zones. You can usually find good deals on ebay

Got it. Ok, Here's the system as I'm planning it out.
  1. $279 for the 20P Kit (comes with a bunch of goodies I need)
  2. $129 EnvisaLink
  3. $408 Total
With no monitoring fees it's a winner. I've looked at several security systems over the last few days. Heck, I've even had to cancel a couple that I'd ordered. All along the whole monitoring fee bothered me though so even as those systems were on there way to me, I was searching for a way to utilize the hardware in the system. I've cancelled those other systems as I see now that I can put together a self-monitored system.

It is impossible to self monitor...there is something called murphy's law and it will bite you in the ass...central station monitoring is cheap 8-15 a month and can reduce your insurance premium making it a bit cheaper..

I've read the opposing viewpoints. Both sides have their points. The position I currently have is that I don't have an alarm now. No notifications. Getting something installed where I do receive notifications electronically and sonically is an improvement. I did look at several companies, but their fee's were closer to $35-40. Where are you seeing monitoring for $8-15?

There cannot be an opposing viewpoint...central station has no downside except cost....the cost is minimal....
Alarm Monitoring Services Only $8.95 per Month from Alarm Relay
the 9 dollar monitoring is for landline...it will be more for gsm....

But will they monitor my home built system, and will insurance accept it?

I checked out the AlarmRelay company. Thank you for the link. I have so many questions...Just 1 however is, does an Alarm.com or Total Connect 2.0 account come with the $8.95 service?

I'm choosing those two system because they are the apps that support the panels I'd be looking to interface with the my current Honeywell 5816 sensors.

I'm interested in Honeywell Lyric and the Oolsys IQ Panel 2.

It doesnt..read again...it requires a landline connection..you can use the landline for central station monitoring AND use envisalink to get alerts and make changes remotely.

@fenderman I see. I do not have a landline. A cellular line would have to do the trick. Is it because AlarmRelay doesn't support cellular? Please excuse my ignorance in the matter, I'm new to this whole security system thing.

geoarm is also a good cellular option.

cellular monitoring requires special hardware connected to your panel.
