Hey,

Long time lurker, but finally a member. So my new project has to deal with security. I need the following criteria to meet the requirements listed below:

Amount I'm working with is $2,000 to $2,500

> 4 Cameras
> PoE Compliant
> Infrared
> Motion Sensor
> Audio/Video
> 2+ TB
> Remote (Mobile is a plus)
> No Cloud
> 720p or better
> Review Recordings ( I can go back and pull the last 30days)
> Export to windows compatible format
> Trial or a good return policy if it does not meet my needs

I hope this helps and looking to hearing from this great community.

Hey, I'm a real newbie myself, trying to plan what I need.

I don't think I would go down to 720p when there's so much good stuff out there...

You don't say what you're going to do, do you want a hardware recorder or use your computer?

I'm going the computer route but I need to play around with bandwidth and image quality over my network and figure out what camera's to buy.

You're going to run cables to the camera's?

So no wireless?

Yes to cables to the cameras
NO WIRELESS

This will need to be recording 24/7/365 so most likely a NVR(We also have a NAS)

Since we will be recording 24/7 i think the NVR is a better option than Blue Iris unless im mistaken
 
I was thinking about the computer solution because I'm a computer nut to start with.

I was thinking you wouldn't have to record all the time with the camera's able to wake the system up when it detects motion.

Not sure how that works.

I don't have a real security threat but it would be nice to be able to see what's going on around me. I live on a large property so a camera at different points around the property (and some would need to be wireless) would be good.

So I'm more of a hobbyist. If I owned a liquor store I would look at it a lot differently.

I record with BI 24/7. Lots here do, so I really don't think that's a factor.
To me, it comes down to flexibility (BI) versus easier to setup (NVR).

There are plenty here in both camps, I expect either would meet your needs.

Best to record 24/7/365 along with motion events. Otherwise you WILL miss important items.

Terrible Idea. No way would the system wake fast enough to record anything useful on motion events.
