Hi guys,
I set up trip line on my front door cameras but they get tripped by a small shadow from tree branches.
Check the video:

Any way to avoid this?
I did not setup targets. Can somebody explain targets to me?
Thanks

You could try intrusion instead of line cross but may still get false alerts

You just have to play with them. Move the line down, try different angles, there is no perfect solution, trial and error. It is no way a perfect feature, but it is a great feature!

Even with intrusion it gets triggered by the slightest leaf move. It sucks because my old Panasonic cam motion detection was never catching any of those movements with default sensitivity...
Also IVS do not record directly to camera so there is no way to play them back other then taking the time from the emails and searching in the constant general recording.
Do I need a NVR to have IVS work properly?

Move that line out towards the sidewalk more and see if that helps. Change the target size to a bigger number. That way it takes a larger object to trigger it. Your tree Shadows are small, people are not.

-or-
Change to "loitering" but make it short, 1 sec and if someone comes on there for 1 sec it will trigger. There are so many work around, but you need to try different lines and settings. You have a line going across a tough environment, tree shadows that move.

Two insane solutions :

  • cut the tree
  • use a light projector powerfull enought to make the shadows on ground dissapear

Sometime I go mental I know ;-)

If you really want to minimize false alerts install an outdoor motion sensor with dual pir + microwave and you should have very few false alerts.

it is IPC-HDW5231R-Z
from the tech specs sheet I do not see any I/O connector so you'll have to fins some z-wave based model (for example) and add a z-wave USB key on your PC and make the software call come WebAPI on BI to trigger motion event but its not the only way.

Thank You for your help.
But unfortunately just noticed that the cameras do not even record snapshots.
the only thing that work is general recording
Also alarm setup can not be remembered.
I am pretty sure the cameras are limited or just defective.

I am pretty sure that they are NOT limited or defective because you can get into the user interface.

Here are some clues:

What version is the firmware? If you recently upgraded it, reset it to default and start over using the System -> Default to wipe it all with fresh configuration.

Did you go to Events -> Smart Plan -> (click on IVS box) and [Save]?

The 5231 does not have a I/O so you'll need a NVR or BI to add an external sensor.

Mine works!

And you are welcome.
