Anyone replaced PSU and case fans in Hikvision NVR?

The stock 40mm fans inside DS-7608NI-I2/8P NVR are pretty loud. The case fan should be easy to replace to something like Noctua NF-A4x10, but I wonder how finicky it would be to open up the PSU and replace its fan as well. I'm going to setup it up in my home theater room and the current fan noise is quite noticeable during a quiet dialogue/passage.
 
Just wondering how you went with this replacement? I have exactly the same problem and would love to learn how to reduce the fan noise.
 
I took the lid off mine permanently because the fans themselves aren't that noisy. The lid being on the unit causes the noise levels to increase due to the confined space i would guess.

Try a lid on and off and compare.

Was yours the same model as the OPs NVR?
 
I would like to upgrade the PSU fan on my Hikvision 7608 I2 NVR to the Noctua NF-A4x10. Before I try though, has anyone been able to do this successfully. I have read somewhere that it has a custom connector...

Wondering if anyone knows if the PSU fan connector is custom or not? Or is the 3 pin to 2 pin adapter provided by Noctua sufficient? Hoping not to have to splice any wires as my system is new and dont want to void warranty.
 
i opened mine up today. It is a Delta Electronics 2 wire 12v fan EFB0412HHD. The connector from the fan into the board is a 2 wire plug. im not certain if this is a standard plug.
I did sound tests and the PSU fan is far far louder than the thinner fan on the side of the case. I probably wouldnt even bother replacing the one on the side.
Now I just need to look for a replacement silent fan to match these specs. 40mmx40mmx20mm, 12V DC 0.15A.

Took a look at the delta model you mentioned and found the following spec sheet:

I noticed that it has 8200 RPM and pushes 9.43 CFM while producing 34 dB-A noise!

Comparing that to what is available from Noctua, which others have claimed to use as a replacement fan in their NVRs, this seems like the best match:
NF-A4x20 FLX

It is 40mm x 40mm x 20mm 12V DC 0.05A
Unfortunately it only reaches 5000 RPM and pushes 5.53 CFM while producing 14.9 dB-A of noise

While it produces significantly less noise, I am not sure if this really is a good match as the air flow might not be sufficient. I am not sure if there are any other products which can match the specs yet reduce the noise.

Please let me know if you find anything and I will post an update if I do as well. Thanks again!

Yes. I have been looking at the same Noctua fan as well. My concern was the same issue around the CFM difference too.
I would love to know if others out there have made this change before and the outcome of it.
 
Just too add though, maybe if you change to this fan and then run with the main cover off, then maybe it is a satisfactory replacement?
 
The reduced Noctua fan may be sufficient under some conditions because I would imagine that the Delta fan was selected to provide adequate cooling during full load on the PSU (ie. power the unit and the additional 130W for POE). Assuming the engineers didnt just throw any random large fan at it and actually did some calculations to determine what type of cooling was required. With that said if the NVR is not under full load then less CFM might be sufficient. But without comparing temperature measurements I would think it would be hard for me to determine what would be sufficient cooling.

I also did that a few weeks ago. Great mod barely hear the thing on.

Used the same fans in a netgear 24 port POE switch. It was as loud as heck before. Now I barely hear it.

The zalman controller is probably not necessary but it does make it a bit quieter. If placing in a bedroom, I would spring for the controller

I found an old pc psu, super quiet only downside was had no poe support, managed to get a 3-35v to 12-60v converter and ran off 12v rail of psu. Quietest hikvision nvr ever

So if I’m understanding this correctly, if I don’t want to do the controller method then all I do is replace the fan and no need to buy all the extra pieces outlined in that link?

Thanks for the info. Looking at the scythe fan you used (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016CMCBG) it only achieves 4.86 CFM as opposed to the original delta fan which produces 9.43 CFM. Have you done any monitoring to see if there is any major changes in the temp? Also, how much of a load does your NVR have on it, ie. how much power being used on PoE. My DS-7608NI-I2/8P is currently using 30W of its 120W supply with 5 cameras, so it is not terribly loaded.

I haven’t done temp or or power monitoring, but it’s been working this way for two years. I have three PoE 3MP Hikvision cameras running off of it.

If you’re willing to splice wires, you just need the fan. If not, you’ll want the Molex power cable with adapter and the extension to allow the case to close.
