Hi - I have the New folder designated in my general clips and archiving tab, with a limit of 1 day before moved to storage. However, I have 6 cams, and I have on each cam's recording tab a separate folder so that each cam's clips stay separate. However, I don't know how long they will stay there until they get moved to storage. I kept the storage folder the same as the one designated in the clips and archiving tab, but as far as the folder designated for each cam under each cam's recording tab, how long will the clips stay there until they are moved to storage?

No, if you select another folder in the camera record tab other than new, it will go to that folder...then in the clips and archiving tab you can set how long the video stays in each folder and where it goes from there.
Is there a reason you are placing the video in different folders?

Because I have 6 cams and it is easier to view clips and photos separately. What confuses me is in clips and archiving it has one new folder designation, but then I have each of the 6 cams designated in folders in each camera setting. So how can the clips and archiving determine when they get moved to storage when the 6 folders are not in the clips and archiving tab?

You should be viewing clips via the blue iris clip viewer (and if using v4 also the time line) blue iris does all the orginizing, its a waste of time to use the folders for this...
The folders must be in the clips and archiving tab..otherwise they would not appear in the record tab...there is a dropdown list where it says select to edit.

based on the images you uploaded the video is in fact going to the new folder not to separate folders.

My cams take a pic a second and continuous video so one folder for all 6 cams gets very large, that is why I separated them.

why do you care about the size of the folder? honestly it seems like you are over complicating it..
There are proper uses of the aux folders but this is not really one of them..although there is nothing technically wrong with what you are doing, it just seems unnecessary...unless im missing something.

Try to open a folder with a few hundred thousand files stored in it - it takes forever. Assigning a folder for each camera reduced the time to open and view significantly. Also viewing in the side clip folder is impossible with so many files. I am not using the aux folders - the way I have it set, each cam goes into its own folder, then after 4 days move into one storage folder. It works for me.

how are you talking snapshots then? if you are using the take snapshot in the record tab then it should be going to the new folder or whatever folder is selected in the record tab.

yes the snaps are going to same folder as videos - are you saying that I could designate a different folder here?

in theory you should be able to if you use the post tab instead...then you would need to create put them in auxiliary folders and set those to auto erase otherwise it will fill your disk...or you can limit the amount of photos themselves by creating a ring and setting a high number...
I dont understand your original post where you say you have each camera saving to a distinct folder..how are you doing that if you are not using the aux folders?

Side note: Just out of curiosity why are you taking all these snapshots?

Somehow I have a new folder designated in the clips and archiving tab, and a separate folder in each cam's recording tab, and it works, all video and snaps for each cam go into a folder for each cam on my tb drive. Somehow it just works, but I will manually have to put them into storage. All of the snaps are because of a psycho in the neighborhood.
That doesnt make any sense...what are the folder names? what do you see when you click on the dropdown list in the clips and archiving? All the folder that appear in the record tab must appear in clips and archiving...

I'd like to do it the right way so the clips and archiving tab will automatically move to storage and then delete. This way it has no idea when to put in storage or to delete, I will have to do it myself every few days.

I don't see any of these folders in clips and archiving, I manually entered them in each cam's recording tab. I guess you don't have to have them in clips and archiving because I keep checking and the videos and snaps are all up to date

ok, i see what you have done...in post 4, i see that you entered the storage location in the record tab...this is improper...you need to leave that alone and just enter the file format...so that you can select a folder from the dropdown...if you want to see more than the default new, storage and alert folder in the record tab dropdown, you need to first go to clips and archiving and set a destination and rename the auxiliary folder so you an use them..then you can designate what happens to them.

Ok I just realized that and am doing that now. So in the record tab I leave it as default file and just choose the assigned aux file I assigned in clips and archiving?

Thanks again I think all is kosher now. The purpose is not to miss anything as there has been a problem in the neighborhood with someone.
