Here is one for you boys, I lost all playback on my HIKVision NVR. Due to my own stupidity I might add. I was playing with it and turned the bitrate up too high. After I paid for someone to come out to no avail ! I decided to have another play as I had nothing to lose. I put the bitrate down to 1024 and all popped back, my question being, what does the bitrate do and how high can it go up before it all goes south again. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Pete.

What is NVR model number? What are the model number of the cameras you are using? How many of each model number are you using and the resolution? What is the frame rate of the cameras? Are you continuously or motion recording? In other words, need details.

Bit rate controls the size of the video stream, which affects how much you can record before your drive is full. Higher bit rates are higher quality. If you have no idea what a good bit rate is, I suggest looking at the table at the bottom of this page: Calculating Required Hard Drive Size | IP Cam Talk It lists recommendations for Max Bitrate and Average Bitrate. Anything in the ballpark of those values should work fine.
