What's your favorite VoIP provider?

Hey Everyone,

I put my grandma's landline on BasicTalk a few years ago when she moved in with relatives. It's now overrun with robocalls and they don't offer any options to filter or block them. So, I'm looking at other providers with call filtering options. Providers I've been looking at include Voip.ms, 1-Voip, Voipo, Anveo, Ooma, Call Centric

My priorities are: audio quality / low latency (her hearing isn't very good and has gotten worse the last few years), reliability / solvency of the company, and the ability to block robocalls. I'm really not looking to setup my own pbx server, so I'm probably looking for more than a bare bones SIP trunk. I've dabbled with voip and soft pbx systems a little but it's been a while.

So what's your favorite VoIP provider? Least favorite? Specific things I should watch out for?

Is Ooma still a good choice or have they gone down hill? Are problems porting out and with billing as common as some reviews imply. Anybody know what codecs the telo / hd3 are using? Does it use CAT-iq? Is their audio quality actually any better than Voip.ms or Anveo?

The stupid constant sale countdown clock on VOIPo's website makes me ponder their solvency. Any experience with them?

We used Vonage for a years, but I got tired of their rates. They also had problems holding a connection. I switched to Phone Power with an ObiTalk modem and haven't had any problems with them. Porting the number over was easy and fast. They're less expensive, you pay on a yearly basis rather than monthly, but you do supply your own modem. They do offer blocking but I think it's limited to 50 numbers. They must be doing some "magic" on their end because I haven't been bothered very much, at all, by robo idiots. Call quality is excellent and I have yet to experience a dropped call in two years, but I don't use the phone all that much. As with everything, YMMV.

I've been using it for 2 years with no problem. I do notice an occasional period during conversations where it drops a couple of words.
