I am trying to help a friend who purchased an IP camera and wants to use it for a webcam. From what I have been able to determine from my research, the camera is an OEM Dahua and believe it to be a DH-IPC-HFW23A0RN-ZS.

The model number and "brand" of the camera in question is an Eclipse ECL-IP3B100MZ. I googled that model number and came up with the following link which wasn't really that helpful but did mention some of the camera specs.

Eclipse Security, IP Bullet CCTV Surveillance Cameras - ECL-IP3B100MZ - Spark Technologies Ltd. in Trinidad - The Building Source

I was able to match it to a Dahua US model DH-IPC-HFW23A0RN-ZS and the picture seems to be a match

Here is a Dahua spec sheet: http://www.howardcomputers.com/images/digcon/Product_Data_Sheet/83B822FC-95A9-453F-90B4-A51F3DAD876E.pdf

I was able to log into the camera using the Dahua config utility but seem to have mixed results using various different browsers (IE, Pale Moon, Firefox, Chrome, Chrome NACL web plugin) am wondering if there is a more definitive way to cross reference this Ellipse camera with the Dahua model number and to determine which Dahua firmware would be appropriate, if any, to upload to the camera. The firmware currently loaded in the camera is from 2015. I tried uploading firmware from the Dahua website for the HFW23AORN camera but received an error indicating incompatible firmware.

Regards,

Jay

why do you feel the need to update firmware? Is the camera not useable as-is?

use ONVIF device manager to find out an rtsp:// url that works with the cam to pull the stream...

Certain functions do not seem to be working correctly and I would rather have a version of the firmware that came from the manufacture rather than an unknown entity.

Also, the plugin that attempts to load is signed by EMS Technology USA, INC but doesn't work in any of the browsers I listed so am hoping firmware from Dahua will fix that as well.

Lastly, I was hoping that updated firmware might include an option to live stream directly to YouTube as I have seen in other IP cameras.

I have about 10 of those in different locations, never upgraded, I did download the firmware from the Dahuawiki site and successfully upgraded the firmware on one of them for giggles. One thing about those cameras and that time period was the Mishmash of re sellers customizing their own firmware or the UP line was doing it for them and I remember NOT being able to upgrade some other models with the stock firmware, hopefully those days are over. My Cams are isolated from the net and always worked fine so I never updated.

Here is a pic after the update.

Thanks for the info and links.

Did you notice any new or updated settings between the original firmware and the latest official firmware from Dahua?

Also, I have looked a number of times and cannot find where to enable/disable the IR illumination and it seems like the IR on my cam is permanently off although if it isn't, just doesn't work very well. Certainly this cameras' night vision is nothing like the IPC-HDW5231R-ZE.

I did in fact notice a difference, I did as far as I remember see a IR level setting on the updated firmware and the New Registration screen with Password and security questions. I will have to look tomorrow, I know from my before and after picture it does correctly ID the model now. Will have to get back on the other.

Looks like the IR switch has been deployed on the newer firmware.

Set your cams to default before you do it, Don't flash it over a wireless network and say two Hail Mary's before you press the upgrade button.
