Please see attached.

Basically 3 cams are way out in the backyard. I dont' want all 3 cat 6 cables going to the house. I want one. So wondering if I connect them to a 4ch switch then connect that (only one cable running to the house) switch to an 8ch switch?

If not what do I need to achieve only one cable going to the house with 3 cams out in the backyard and more cams in my home?

That should work. The only possible issue you might and I say might is the length of cable connecting in between. By this I mean that in order to drive that cable you will need a high quality switch in the house but then again if both switches are only 100mbs then you should have no issues.

Again you might not see any issues but in my house I have 2 runs of cables going to my sons room, around 20+ meters. When I cables it all up he couldn’t get a reliable 1gb connection, would drop back to 100mb. After a lot of trail and error I found that the switch I had, an 8 port 3Com gigabit switch wasn’t capable of powering the connection properly, replace it with a proper switch and the connection has been ultra reliable.

Which switch did you end up going with?

For my main household switches, both of which are non POE I have a Dell fully managed gigabit switch and also a Linksys gigabit but dumb switch. My POE switch is a Trendnet. I then use the 3Com switches I mentioned above, I have a couple to basically provide multiple connections where required so very much like your single cable to extend to a point/place.
