My father used to yell at me to keep the lines straight and overlap the same amount on each pass. When I bought my first house, it was a corner lot. I used to cut it straight and perfect every time, then I decided to start in the middle, cut the wheels to one side, and go in a swirl. Afterwards my neighbor asked me if everything was ok, and I told him that I wanted to do something different. I also liked cutting diagonal with a wave pattern to break things up a bit. The yard looks good, but those straight lines make me thing of those days as a kid pushing a mower and having someone screaming at me.

Hahaha. Yea I try designs too dont always come out right.

I built a new house 3 hours away but haven't moved into it yet. Because of the distance, I contracted a lawn service to mow the grass. I have a camera pointed toward the front yard that is a 20 degree slope. I can't wait to see on the remote playback if they use a zero turn mower or a walk behind to mow that slope.

When I mow, I usually start at the outside of any given section, and work inwards in a spiral. I never did like the straight line look, or the wasted effort of doing all of those 180s. Of course what's easiest and most efficient depends on the yard layout. Bushes. trees, gardens, etc., play into the optimization of the plan of attack!

If you really want the pattern to stand out, just set the wheels on one side if the mower higher than the wheels on the other side. Just call me Edward Mowerhands! ;)

Wish, I always do an inward spiral. I find this to be the most logical and efficient method of mowing grass. The only more efficient method for me would be to pay somebody else to do it, but I am too cheap.
