Can someone explain to me how to fill out the setup page on the companion server? I have successfully got BI running with four cameras on my office computer. I know it can talk on the internet because my ios app works fine. Its just not coming to me what to enter in each of the setup boxes. i.e. Blue Iris Local Address? Is that the address of the program running on my office computer? But a 192.168 etc address? Then the Remote Address (host/IP:port)? Should that be the address of the laptop I want to run the companion on? I would appreciate any help as I have not been able to find an idiots guide for this one!

The Blue Iris Local Address in Blue Iris Companion (BIC) is the IP address of your PC running Blue Iris 4 / 5 including the port number. This is the 192.168.x.x address you mentioned and is only accessible from inside your Local Area Network (LAN). The port number is the webserver port that Blue Iris is configured for like 81, 8000, 8080. Refer to Blue Iris Settings -> Webserver tab.

The Remote address is the IP address that Blue Iris Companion uses from the outside your office (Internet/WAN) to connect to Blue Iris. The Remote address is the WAN IP address that your ISP assigns to your modem/router, like 45.71.21.12.

For example, let says your Blue Iris PC's IP address is 192.168.1.2 and Blue Iris webserver is configured for port 8080 and your ISP assigns the IP address 45.71.21.12 to the WAN interface of your modem/router. You would configure Blue Iris Companion using:

1. Click Add Server when prompted.
2. Enter a name: Blue Iris
3. Enter Blue Iris Local Address (Host/IP : port): 192.168.1.2:8080
4. Enter Blue Iris Remote Address (Host/IP : port): 45.71.21.12:8080 (this require port forwarding on Router)
5. Enter the user and password that you set up in Blue Iris, usually admin and password. This is what BIC uses to connect to Blue Iris.
6. Click Save.

Personally, I find Blue Iris Companion (3rd party app, no affiliation with Blue Iris Perspective Software) to be very slow and has less functionality than the Blue Iris mobile clients. I would recommend using UI3 webserver to connect to Blue Iris using Chrome or Firefox. It has almost the same functionality of the Blue Iris console.
