I am new here so bare with me. I am wiring a Dahua IP PTZ camera and it has many wires along with the Ethernet connector. My question is if the Ethernet w/PoE+ is used is it necessary to also hook up the alarm wires independently or is it included in the Ethernet connection. I know these cameras are backwards compatible with older coax systems with the use of adapters and that would require the use of separate alarm and audio wiring too. The generic Dahua install book is almost useless , basically covers all situations.

+1^^ to what @looney2ns said.

@vogeldp , If you need more clarification, if would help if you could post a clear image or two of the camera's pigtail and wiring with labels, etc. and tell us the specific model of the Dahua PTZ.

P.S. - Welcome to IPCT! :)

Andy answered it , both audio and alarm wires are independent of the ethernet connection. Would be nice if they would use other 3 pairs.

I'm glad Andy was able to help, but I am curious: What "other 3 pairs" are you referring to ?

In other words, on that Ethernet cable's RJ-45 connector, if you used any of the conductors for audio and/or alarm I/O then:
  • How would you transmit and receive camera DATA?
  • How would you POWER the camera?

I understand from what I have read the other three pairs are not used . In a PoE setup, power is transmitted over the same twisted pair with the video.

For what it's worth, POE+ Mode A will provide 2 unused pairs, not 3; DATA and POWER will be on 2 pairs, not 1.

If adhering properly to specs, the camera has to allow Mode A and Mode B and the PSE (power supply) will decide which mode(s) to implement, not the PD (the camera in this case).

Thanks for your input. I have always been willing to learn the correct way if only that info is present and correct.
