I was searching a poe switch on Amazon, ebay and craigslist, one poe switch I found on cragslist was Netgear GC728XP listed at $150 brand new.

I'm a newbie here and trying to build my first system using BI. My plan is to use 10-12 cameras and will add more if needed, so my question is, is this switch a good one? Is it worth to buy based on its numbers and price? Please give me some suggestion if not, thank you very much!

I know nothing about that one other than what I see on Amazon but the price of $150 is really unrealistic for a brand new one compared to new on Amazon. They're listed at $540 new on Amazon.
So my guess would be that it could be any of these:
  • not the model specified in the ad?
  • not brand new as claimed? (possibly broken?)
  • stolen?
  • a fishing bait and switch type of scheme?

Its just when it seems too good to be true, something is wrong about it. Good luck and be careful

Is that the 19 day old ad from the San Fran area? That HAS to be fake.
NETGEAR 24-PORT POE CLOUD SWITCH-NEW - electronics - by owner - sale

I bet its fake because I can't imagine a $540, "brand new in box" switch, being offered for only $150, staying listed (unsold) for 19 days being so close to a major city. Especially a technology hotbed of San Fran/San Jose.

Yes that's also my concern, that guy has a lot of postings on CL(electronics, furnitures, paintings, etc) and most of them are marked as "Brand New with 50% price or below", so Im still debating whether to give a try.

Here is his postings: SF bay area for sale - craigslist
