What causes this transparent effect with night video on a 5231-ZE?

Just captured this raccoon in my driveway. This is from a Dahua 5231-ZE using default settings and internal IR. Is there something I can adjust in the Video or Exposure settings to help mitigate this effect? Thanks!

...and a faster shutter and more IR
I'm curious what shutter is used in the default auto settings of that capture. It's pretty dark in that area, I'll try a manual shutter setting of 1/60 tonight. That raccoon is pretty consistent about visiting overnight.

I think 1/30 but agree I’d try 1/60 for starts and maybe add some IR

So they raccoon came back overnight. Here is the capture using the attached settings. I guess I'm thinking a 5231-ZE should be a little bit better than this.

The only way you're going to improve that is add some more IR. What distance are we looking at here?

The newer 2231 S2 (and the 3241, which looks like it’s pretty much the S2 version of the 5231) both have much improved minimum illumination specs.

More IR will make a world of difference. Here is an example from one of my Dahua IPC-HFW1831E (4K bullet) cams with lots of extra IR lighting. This camera is less sensitive than the 5231 series.

You’ll have to walk back and forth (or get the wife or dog to do it) while you play with settings to really see what effect each change has. 1/60 should be close, 5 on DNR islikely to get grainy. You need to add light. Either white or IR

that actually looks pretty decent. you should see my 5241, i can't get it to read a license plate at night to save my life.

From the posts I've seen in the LPR forum, capturing a license plate at night usually requires a stupidly fast shutter speed, like 1/2500 or something.
