best OS for Blueiris

Hi to all,
I really like blueiris but before I purchase this I just want some suggestions about the OS. I want to use a standalone server only for recording with blue iris.. this will host only this software and nothing else. So question is: is there a version of windows 7 or a modded ISO that will be more suitable only for use with blueiris? I think that windows 7 is very expensive in terms of resources if I will use the server only for recording.
many thanks

I'm running BlueIris on Win7 Pro in an ESXI virtual machine. Havent had any issues (3 cameras), but I had to enable direct-to-disc recording, otherwise my CPU usage would be almost 100% all the time.

cams are 3 MP, 20 fps

If you are buying the OS, just buy 8...it wont make a difference...there is no need to spend more on a server OS..

Yes, almost all the overhead of the operating system will be in memory usage and RAM is too cheap to worry about that. It is CPU usage that you need to worry about, and Windows does not tend to use a significant amount of CPU all on its own.

Just asking this one again as I'm thinking of rebuilding my BI machine. I have Win 7 Pro, Server 2012 R2 or 8.1 Pro. I'm inclined to go server. Any reason I shouldn't?

The server OS won't do anything better than 8.1 as far as Blue Iris is concerned. If you already have the license and nothing better to use it for then you might as well use it.

Some apps that offer free versions for home users will specifically not allow the free version to run on a Windows Server OS.

Does it ever require reboots? Win 7 is stable too but does require regular reboots.

No with Win 7 Pro (or maybe Enterprise N) on a new machine used to just slow down after a few weeks and needed a reboot. But that could have been FlexRAID or the VM software.

Something else was wrong...I would routinely leave the windows 7 BI machines on for a couple of months with no issues...I would reboot to install updates for windows/BI every couple of months...I think the longest was 111 days...

I would recommend Windows 10 x64 as the best choice, it is the only one that allows running as service with hardware acceleration enabled, which is useful if you're on a recent Intel hardware.

Interesting that 7 can't do QSV with BI running as a service. I guess I'll be looking at 8.1 or 10 then.
