Just out of curiosity are there Dahua cams intended for the North American market that directly match the specs of the now famous 5231 EZ (turret) and the new 5442 that some say replaces or competes well against the 5231? Are the same exact cams in NA but sold under a different model number and a slightly different firmware that defaults to NTSC?

I’ve heard that, but I’m still interested in knowing if certain cams are being distributed with other modem numbers in other markets yet are virtually identical.

That’s what I’ve observed. The famously well performing cams like the 5231 and others have no USA market counterpart that I can determine. I was just curious. Are these cams in America? Thanks.

I believe this is the 5442:

But what's the little circle thing to the right of the lens? Is that on the 5442?

Loryta pic from Amazon for comparison:

5231 Loryta pic, maybe it's just the 5231 pic? Just trying to understand what that circle is...

Mac,

I have had my 5231 cameras for a couple of years or more. When they were new, the PAL/NTSC option was determined by a suffix in the firmware number. With a N for NTSC and P for PAL. The firmware I presently have installed offers the drop down option in the settings.

Nice, can you send me a link to that exact firmware or the exact name? Was this FW from Andy?

Thanks,

Robert

That is where the Chinese are spying. Sorry, but I had to do it.
The 5442 does not have that, nor the 5231. That is weird.
I have both, the old 5231 and the newer one, also the 5442 and I have never seen that before.

Looking at the spec sheets of both cams, they seem to be about the same and the pictures are exactly the same. Not sure where you got the pic with the circle. On the left is the HDW5442TM-AS and on the right is the N45DJ62.

Most everything is the same except the N45DJ62 has a lot more Application Functions listed, like Fast Moving, Parking Detection, Crowd Gathering, and Loitering Detection. See the PDFs.

@samplenhold notice that the tear sheet differs from the B&H model. BH shows 3 year warranty not 5 and the extra little lens thing is shown on the BH photo... take a look.

Yeahhhh, but I do not know how much you can trust the photo on a site selling the cam. If they are truly selling that model #, then I would expect the spec sheet downloaded from Dahua's USA site to be the correct one. The warranty from Dahua is probably only valid if you buy from an authorized installer. The three year from B&H is probably through B&H alone.
