Hey guys, picked up the little cheap DLink DCS-932L. It has day/night mode with the IR. Can't get BI to manually change modes. Anyone know if this is supposed to work? Works fine when using the DLink iphone software but not when I try to do it from the BI iphone app or the server itself.

I don't think BI can change settings on DLink camera, only from DLink web page

Oh darn. Is there a list of Cams that BI does support these features, including light/contrast, etc settings? I am just starting out and looking for ideas on cams to buy.

You shouldnt need to use BI to adjust these settings..simply log into the camera...its not like you will be changing them regularly.
As far as cameras look at hikvision and dahua...stay away from dlink, foscam, wanscam and the like.

Nothing wrong with DLink DCS-932l, if don't have experience with it don't trash it.

Everything is wrong with the 932l. Its a VGA camera, mpeg compress, 1/5 sensor, poor motion detection, weak ir...terrible narrow 45 degree viewing angle.
Its should not be sold or purchased in 2015. There are much better options.

Ok give 2 examples of better options
hikvision 2mp cube camera - 99
Hikvision 3mp 2432 cube 119.
Heck I would even recommend a foscam c1 720p camera for 70 dollars over this (as much as foscam is crap, this dlink is worse)...
The hikvision cube will give you, sd card slot, better IR, MUCH better image quality with a much wider Field of View. PIR motion sensor, line cross detection, better wifi, POE, h.264 compression.

Sure at over twice the cost.
The c1 is often on sale for 55, other foscam 720p cameras for 40-45, - though foscam should also be avoided....I would not use this dlink if it was given to me for free.. Regardless, the dlink is complete junk and should never be installed as a security camera in 2015...if you want to watch your dog every so often then ok.....otherwise its a poor choice. You will miss important video because the coverage and resolution is simply not there. There is way more than double the value in the hikvisions...cost alone is not a proper gauge..its all about value...the dlink is not a good value at all.

No, its was not ok in 2014 either...back in the day when D1 or less was the only option, the solution was to use many more cameras with a very narrow fov....These cameras should simply not exist in 2015. You are better off with a Top-201 720p camera for 20 bux or less and leave and led bulb on so you dont need night vision. I pains me to see folks waste their money on this junk. My 19" Sony Trinitron CRT pc monitor was GREAT in 1997...today you would not take it for free.

DCS-932l is a very reliable entry level wireless camera, no SD card slot. Fenderman like the SD slot. The only reason I would get a SD slot camera is if my network wasn't reliable. oh well

I will emphasize this again, because I think its important. The camera is JUNK an should never be used for security or evidence purpose. The resolution is terrible. Instead if using 3 of these, you can get a 2mp hikvision. The motion detection is horrible and will give you tons of false triggers. Unlike the hikvision that has line cross detection, intrusion detection as well as a built in poe sensor. The night vision is terrible on the dlink as well. If you want and entry level camera for 20 dollars buy the top-201 pinhole. Spending any money on the dlink is a complete waste. I feel physical pain when i see folks spend hard earned money on this kind of trash.
Not sure why you fixated on the sd card slot but here goes.
Since you love running wifi which is a terrible idea to begin with, you need to come to the realization that, wifi is not reliable and therefore if you are using the camera wifi, sd card slot is a must. There are other reasons why sd card slot is nice, hard drive failure, power failure..for example, you can run your all cameras off a switch attached to ups via poe (not available on the foscam or dlink)...this will give you MUCH more record time than running your blue iris pc on the same ups....the cameras will continue recording to the sd card.

We can agree to disagree. Its the equivalent of buying a 19" crt computer monitor. It will "work" but terribly.
It is small and light and easy to mount and no warm up time, so CRT is bad analogy. Better analogy is its like a 15 inch LCD monitor. But in 2015, I look most of the time at my cameras on my mobile device, so most of the time they look ok. I will be upgrading sure, but these 932s will still be used, many application(water main, breaker box, furnace, well tank, water softener, washing machine, dryer, sewer exit, sump pump, ejector pump, water heater ect, garage door) and they are definitely not a resource hog on BI PC.
