Pfizer, Merck launch new trials of oral COVID-19 drugs
Sept 1 (Reuters) - Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) and Merck & Co Inc (MRK.N) announced on Wednesday new trials of their experimental oral antiviral drugs for COVID-19 as the race to develop an easy-to-administer treatment for the potentially fatal illness heats up.
Pfizer said its latest mid-to-late-stage trial will enroll 1,140 non-hospitalized adults diagnosed with coronavirus infection who are not at risk of severe illness. Patients in the trial will be given Pfizer's pill, known as PF-07321332, and a low dose of ritonavir, an older medication widely used in combination treatments for HIV infection.
Pfizer's drug is designed to block the activity of a key enzyme that is needed for the coronavirus to multiply.
Merck said its new trial will study experimental drug molnupiravir for the prevention of COVID-19 among adults in the same household as someone diagnosed with symptomatic coronavirus infection. Merck and partner Ridgeback Biotherapeutics are already conducting a late-stage trial of the treatment in non-hospitalized patients to see if it reduces the risk of hospitalization or death.
Molnupiravir is a type of antiviral designed to introduce errors into the RNA of the virus that eventually prevent it from replicating.
Pfizer began in July a different trial of PF-07321332 in adults with COVID-19 infection who are at high risk of becoming severely ill due to underlying health conditions such as diabetes. The company said it expects initial results from that study some time this fall.
Rivals Pfizer and Merck, along with Swiss pharmaceutical Roche Holding AG (ROG.S), have made the most progress in developing what would be the first antiviral pill to treat, or possibly prevent, COVID-19.
To date, Gilead Sciences Inc's (GILD.O) intravenous drug Veklury, known generically as remdesivir, is the only approved antiviral treatment for COVID-19 in the United States.
Roche and partner Atea Pharmaceuticals (AVIR.O) in June said early data from a trial of their experimental oral antiviral AT-527 showed that it lowered viral load in hospitalized patients.
Merck said in June that the U.S. government agreed to pay about $1.2 billion for 1.7 million courses of molnupiravir, if it is proven to work and authorized by regulators. The company said it expected to file for U.S. emergency use authorization of molnupiravir in the second half of 2021 at the earliest.
Pfizer said in July if the PF-07321332 trial was successful, it would file for a potential emergency use authorization in the fourth quarter.

Doctors suggest we should have waited between doses of Pfizer, Moderna vaccines
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Pfizer released new data Wednesday indicating vaccine efficacy starts to decline around five to six months after the second dose, not eight months as originally thought.
It's raising questions if the three to four week gap between doses for Pfizer and Moderna was long enough to make the second shot the most effective.
"If this was a slow moving epidemic, you probably wouldn't have seen these three week gaps," said UCSF epidemiologist, Dr. George Rutherford. "You probably would've seen something longer."
"Why is that?" ABC7's Stephanie Sierra asked.
"Because it works better," he said. "If you have a little more space in between, you get over your primary immune reaction and then you're at the point where all your cells are primed and you can get a secondary immune reaction."
Rutherford says if we had a two month waiting period in between the first two doses of Pfizer and Moderna we may be in a little better place, but we will never know for certain.
"Who knows? But we would've tolerated a lot more cases getting that second dose," he said.
Rutherford says he wouldn't be surprised if a longer wait period in between doses will be recommended moving forward. Preliminary data released from Research Square Wednesday, showed a more productive antibody response from Pfizer after an eight to 16 week gap between doses - but the findings aren't yet peer reviewed.

But one would not be off-base to ask whether the data indicates heavy vaccination rates may actually be INCREASING the spread of Covid-19.
Israel registered close to 11,000 COVID-19 cases on Monday, the Health Ministry reported Tuesday, marking a new record since the start of the pandemic. This needs to be clearly disseminated to everyone who has been told that the vaccines will stop the disease because Israel enjoys one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. Over 80% of the eligible population has been “fully vaccinated” with the recently FDA-approved Pfizer vaccine accounting for the lion’s share.
On its face, this should be devastating news for those pushing for universal vaccinations. It makes it crystal clear that the injections do not even slow the spread of Covid-19, and may actually accelerate it. But this news will be ignored by American mainstream media while international media does its best to spin it into “nothing to see here.”

A newly published medical study found that infection from COVID-19 confers considerably longer-lasting and stronger protection against the Delta variant of the virus than vaccines.
“The natural immune protection that develops after a SARS-CoV-2 infection offers considerably more of a shield against the Delta variant of the pandemic coronavirus than two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, according to a large Israeli study that some scientists wish came with a ‘Don’t try this at home’ label,” the Scientific American reported Thursday. “The newly released data show people who once had a SARS-CoV-2 infection were much less likely than vaccinated people to get Delta, develop symptoms from it, or become hospitalized with serious COVID-19.”
Conclusions This study demonstrated that natural immunity confers longer lasting and stronger protection against infection, symptomatic disease and hospitalization caused by the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, compared to the BNT162b2 two-dose vaccine-induced immunity. Individuals who were both previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 and given a single dose of the vaccine gained additional protection against the Delta variant.

The link below says probably PCR. Although the PCR test, at high sample rates, has very well known issues, it is still apparently widely used. The CDC, which now apparently controls all health care approvals in the US, is not going to retract their recommendation to the FDA for EUA for the PCR test until the end of 2021.
FYI: In case others don't know, the PCR test, at sample rates above about 29, is likely to provide false positives, hitting on ANY virus cells in your nasal cavity. I believe the recommended sample count is like 34 in the US. PCR test process is not new, it has been around and used for other tests, but at lower sample rates.

I am a medical mess and have diabetes among many other challenges. But, I just deal with them and go on. One thing about diabetes is that while described as a disease, it is really a symptom - high blood glucose (BG) levels. Carbs and sugars cause your BG levels to rise. So, it seems like reducing carb intake would help reduce your BG levels and medicine requirements. But, most dietitians, hospitals, doctors, etc, still recommend high carb diets.
To tie this back in with this thread, the issue here is the so called studies supporting masks, vaccines, treatment options, etc. This video destroys the often repeated "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" thought. It also shows how the medical community repeats this unfounded lie repeatedly, and how studies are biased towards those who pay for them. Just replace diabetes with covid and you couldn't get a clearer picture of how main stream medicine has it wrong.
