Hi guys,

I currently have a SD59225U PTZ on my house.... it's been up for 2 years approx. I'm super unhappy with the tracking. It often spins in circles.. doesn't track correctly. Follows headlights of cars, etc. @Wildcat_1 helped me to set up the settings better than it was before... but it's still not performing to the level in which I am happy with it.

Functionality wise - I think the problem with the 59225 is it is too slow. By the time it recognizes movement, and begins to track the individual, it is too late and it has lost it's target.

Am I going to be much happier with SD49225XA's ability to auto track?
 
Definitely, though it is not perfect either, but a huge upgrade and it is a bit smaller as well. My 59225 is on CL, but nobody wants it.

Can I see an example of what distance you are tracking at? I almost think this is part of my problem... the 59225 is on the second story of my home, pointing down to the front yard and side walk - So, it has a limited amount of space and time to track.. I'm thinking maybe this is part of my problem? and this is just not the ideal circumstances for a PTZ.
 
My camera is installed at the corner of the garage, under the eve. So driveway and sidewalk length.

Yes as I mentioned at the time, the 49225 & 5A425 are definite upgrades over the 59xxx for sure. See you DM’d me, will reply there too @CastleSurveillance

Thank you @Wildcat_1 - I just want to know what the best direction is moving forward... If I'm going to go through the trouble of taking down a camera that is 2 stories up, and replacing with another very expensive PTZ - I want to make sure it is going to work how I want it to.
 
This would also highlight the need and use for spotter cams to help direct the PTZ. The use of PTZ’s is great when a person is managing the same. But if you are relying solely on auto tracking this technology still has a long way to go.

The use of spotter cams and trip wires from other sensors is key. It’s also important to accept like stationary cameras sometimes you’ll need more than one PTZ.

In industry when there is only a single PTZ’s they are used specifically to monitor a very specific target area / zone. It’s not used to monitor a wide area unless dedicated stationary cameras are in place.

Setting proper expectations is key to success when using any PTZ technology. Given the advancement of multi headed lens PTZ along with radar.

Everything that uses to take 3-5 separate pieces of hardware can be done with one!
