With regards to the hardware, would you be able to advise me what I need to buy? Would it be a small form factor - just wondering about CPU, motherboard, RAM etc - I already have 2x 6TB surveillance drives in my NVR that I can use.

Look at the HP Elitedesk SFF as recommended by @fenderman. I'm happy I went that direction. I'm running 2 drives to record 18 camera's which is how I prefer to split the load. It gives me a bit quicker search results when backing thru the Calendar and viewing the Weekend camera footage.

Thanks, thats handy that it doesnt need to be built! Is your Elitedesk g4 800 SFF fairly quiet? My current NVR is VERY loud, which drives my wife nuts.

Also it has a kensington lock, which is a massive bonus.

Very quiet. Only time I hear the fans come up in RPM's is when i'm converting/exporting a large amount of footage for longer than 5-10 minutes. and even then it's not annoying. I've had a bunch of noisy NVR/DVR's I put the fuckers out in the garage! too noisy for the house.
The HP is very quiet. easy on energy.

The picture shows the upper drive tray. the 2 HDD's sit in there. and underneath that you can run a 2.5 SSD. Or an onboard Nvme M.2 SSD. i think it has 4 SATA ports on board.

Looks like the motherboard on both .pdfs shows 3 SATA ports. So if you want the Optical drive to be operational. you might wanna consider an M.2 on board SSD for the C:\ drive

The wifi series Camera's appear to have an Ethernet( RJ-45) plug in, so you could run it into a switch to the computer. Or if it's currently connected to your Wireless Network via an Access Point, or a router, and it has an IP address, You should be able to get Blue iris to Surf to that address, with camera's User/Pass and it should find it.

Yep, all my cameras are hardwired - the 2x wifi cameras are used as baby cameras for our children and the wifi component is disabled, but the cameras are POE - I went for that model because its not as 'full on - surveillance looking' for a childs bedroom! I will start hunting for the HP Elitedesk Desktop 800 G4 in Australia.

Curious though, what is the specs of the cameras. 4mp, 8mp or 2mp. Just curious because if I can run (8) 4mp starlights, some 2mp lpr and a couple AI PTZ then I'll probably go that route. Idk.

With the substreams option now available, the MP specs of the camera doesn't really matter. People here are running 50 cameras on a 4th gen at sub 30% CPU.

You could run your proposed setup on a 4th gen no problem, so a 6th gen is more than capable.

1/3 4mp are 1/3 are 5 mp and about 1/3 are 2 Mp
Plus the occasional feed from the 16 channel when needed.
30 camera streams no problem.
but 99% of them are streaming me the Substream to the viewing Monitor.
