The title of your post is for a different camera. This is the one with a 4MP 1/2.8" sensor. Still a good camera, but not the 2MP 1/2.8" sensor 49225 in the title.

Crap sorry about that
Thank you
Oh, it's no problem, I was interested in the 49225, so clicked on the link and was confused that you were selling it for more than Andy is selling them new. That's when I read the invoice more closely and figured out it was a different camera.

For those interested, this camera would be comparable to the 4MP 49425 except this camera has 32x (156mm) zoom versus 25x zoom (120mm).

It is a great price at just a little more than a new 49425, so if you have the light and need extra zoom, this would be a great deal.

Hey @wittaj,
What's a good rule of thumb for translating these DORI numbers into reality?

Even dividing these numbers in half, that's quite a distance. If so, can you really identify someone 1 1/2 football fields away? (I know, I know, that's not at night, in the rain...but WOW, if during the day it can reach out that far and focus, I'd be impressed.)

In the day time I have found it to be fairly close. I can certainly zoom in 1,000 feet away with the 49225 and be verge of Identify/Recognize. I can read plates that far during the day.

At night, that number drops of substantially. At least half if not 75% Obviously a lot of factors come into play like amount of available light and shutter speed and other parameters.

If someone is standing still and I slow the shutter down to 1/3s at night, even then it would be tough to reach the DORI distances and movement will be a complete blur.

I don't have my PTZ pointed down 1200 feet LOL but sat it there for several hours hoping someone would pass. Of course while I tried to capture someone that far out nobody was around LOL.

But here is a shot of a house under construction at 1250 feet with the 49225 to give you the idea of what you can see/read:
