I have the 3.6mm and 2.8mm versions of the IPC-T5442TM-AS, but they have different firmware's of which the 2.8mm is newer. Do they actually take didn't versions of firmware or is there a newer version for the 3.6mm and I just can't find it?

The take the same firmware, but if the camera is working and meet your needs, don't mess with it.
Most here do not update a working camera as it usually breaks something. Many of my cameras are running 2019 firmware. Don't fix what ain't broke.
You should get the firmware from the vendor you purchased it from.
If it was from Andy, go to the Andy subforum and do a search as he posts the firmware to the cameras he sells there.

Can someone point me to the firmware download link for the following Dahua? The camera was shipped with this version but I want to re-flash it to try and resolve an issue.

I purchased from him through Amazon. i went to the Dahua firmware section but did not find this exact version listed. I'll look again though. THank you.

When using DMSS on my phone to view recordings on the SD card of my IPC-T5442TM-AS-2.8mm with firmware V2.840.15OG008.0.R, Build Date: 2022-02-18 , it fails with "Connection Failed". It doesn't matter if i'm on my local LAN or away using cellular. If I roll the firmware back to V2.820.15OG001.0.R, Build Date: 2021-05-25, reviewing recordings works like a champ.

Yep, just shows that sometimes the latest and greatest firmware isn't the best! Once you find a firmware that is working for your needs, no need to tempt fate! I have added this to the list of things I have seen people come to this forum about after they upgraded:
- A Dahua Z12E that someone updated and then constantly reboots comes to mind.
- The Dahua 49225 and 49425 PTZ that loses autotracking with an update come to mind.
- The Hikvision DS-2DEA425IW-DW PTZ that loses autotracking with an update comes to mind.
- A Hikvision ANPR camera losing half the FPS and loses the ability to read US plates - those are big deals to have happen.
- A Hikvision ANPR DS-2CD4A26FWD camera that lost all ability to read plates - kinda makes the camera useless.
- A Hikvision camera that the user lost ability to control the LED light function at night.
- A Hikvision wifi camera that loses the ability to use wifi after a firmware update.
- Dahua 5442 that will not allow playback of the SD card.
- Countless other instances where the camera or NVR simply bricked and became useless.
- Countless examples where the camera or NVR went into Chinese.
