Bullet Cameras Mounted Portrait

I bought this used Dahua bullet cam from Andy. Quite obviously, I wasn't thinking much when purchasing it. If you look at the attached image this cam should be clearly mounted in a portrait position and not landscape. I am just recording a lot of wall and fence. Do people actually mount bullet cams in portrait mode? The hood really doesn't give much protection from rain (not that we have much) and sun (of which we have a lot). The cam is pointing/recording East but because it is on the very West part of the wall and there is some roof above it probably doesn't get that much sun. Also if I would get a turret cam there won't be any good protection/hood at all. So does it matter if I turn that bullet cam 90 degrees? Do people do this? Seems counterintuitive...

Some of the camera's I've seen here have some control over portrait/landscape in the GUI. But I cannot recall which ones.
Somebody will know.

Some of the DIY guys probably have made custom "shades" from plastic bottles to help that scenario.

BlueIris can rotate the images, even with Direct to Disc recording (I believe). The bigger issue is the protection. I guess I could fabricate something with plastic bottles.

What model is the camera? Most Dahua prosumer cameras allow image rotation in the camera itself in 90 degree increments.

No, it doesn't matter. The shade isn't there for "protection." It's to help shade the lens from glare. Other than in some rare instances, they do little to nothing.

As above, rotate the cam in the web interface.
