Anyone know if there is firmware to upgrade this camera from SMD3.0 to SMD4.0. Have some animals causing false alarms and would hope SMD4.0 is a bit better

SMD 4.0 analytics has appeared on 3 series of S2 generation cameras, for example, HDW3841T-ZS-S2. This is a change in the hardware platform, so as far as I know, when updating the firmware, SMD 4.0 analytics will not appear.
For TIOC cameras, the appearance of SMD 4.0 has not yet been announced.

And do you know about the TiOC models IPC-HFW3849T1-AS-PV and IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV if their update to the latest firmware also enabled SMD 3.0, or they stayed on the older SMD Plus?

latest is DH_IPC-HX5XXX-Volt_MultiLang_PN_Stream3_V2.840.0000000.18.R.220629.bin, seems to be SMD plus and no one new feature...
awaiting auto day/night, smart illumination ... nothing at all
SMD4.0 is only used for WEB5.0 firmware.
Let me tell you an upgrade method, you put IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-S3 on ebay for sale.
Then purchase IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV-S4, you can use the most economical way to upgrade to SMD4.0

Dear @kobebeef It's just that with that purchase of the newer model IPC-HDW3849H-AS-PV you won't get anything significant in terms of image quality, but only newer SMD 4.0 (Smart motion detection) and WEB5.0 for browser viewing...!

new versions adds, as for me, important and simple in realization two functions:
auto day/night (terrible what TOP TIOC line has NO such function in IPC-HFW3*49T1-AS-PV) and
smart illumination (in a fact i was disappointed and made a mistake when bought 1st version - everythere smart illumination was a part of TIOC (except 1st revision)
