Figured this forum may have some input on the pending legislation to supposedly ban DJI drones in the US. I say supposedly because that's the language that's being used on the forums and social media, but is it really a ban? Is this similar to what happened with Dahua, Hik, etc? H.R. 2864 is the bill and some folks say it only affects government operators, some say it would ground all DJI drones including hobbyist use, and others say it would only ban future models from being sold in the US. What do you guys think?

Could be but with the inevitable "new strain" of COVID that will VERY coincidentally arrive right before this November elections, I think Brandon's Troops will need all the drones they can muster to prevent private gatherings of people, especially in churches....and particularly mask enforcement will need the aid of the drones, too. 
Time to buy 10 ga. Goose guns as punt guns would be hard to maneuver to shoot down drones.

LOL, considering that most of us have cameras that see clearly into neighbors' yards and windows and cars etc...y'all seem oddly anti-drone. What's up with that?
Not all of us do that. I have masked any views that look at my neighbor's back yard and windows.
Not anti-drone, as I own one. But have had a local kid send his over the fence and look directly into my bedroom window at night. That IS peeping tom behavior. He won't do that again.
It is illegal to shoot down a drone in most jurisdictions. But some folks like to discuss this.
That's what I liked about those imaginary net-shot shells in post #4: "But officer, the drone ran into one of my nets I have over MY property....really, officer."
It's when "them drones" have hand grenades on 'em when I start worrying!

Sheesh... I never refer to my quadcopters as drones. I call them quads. To me, a "drone" is a very expensive piece of equipment used for very long range surveillance and/or killing. My 240 gram DJI Mini 2 fits neither of those parameters (and it has far greater range than any of my other quads)...
I think the term originated from the original and dated definition of "drone" --- "A low, continuous humming sound" (noun) or "Makes a low continuous humming sound" (verb).

I'm with ya. Got so damn tired of hearing that term. In the early days, myself and many others started the quad-copter craze. It was fun....pushing RC to it's limits along with aerial photography/gps. It was a very exciting HOBBY. Then it got stupid. People started doing stupid shit with it and of COURSE the GOV got involved. Numerous RC Quad-copter / RC Photography websites either disappeared or people went underground.....same with aerial photography...there was good money to be made in it...all while enjoying your favorite hobby. But that all disappeared almost overnight...when Big Brother got involved.
Again, much of it was done because of STUPID FUKING PEOPLE not using common sense, RESPECTING people's privacy and NOT OBEYING the laws. I never had an autonomous (DRONE) RC vehicle. They were all controlled by my fingers and transmitter.

I recall a couple of years ago where one or more amateur drone/quad "pilots" interfered with aerial firefighting in California, IIRC.......morons.
^Agreed. Again, stupid people doing stupid things bring in stupid Gov rules. And as much as I do not like to admit it, some of those Gov. rules aren't so stupid.
I bought a dji drone to get aerial shots on a trip a few years ago, and it really ups the look of home movies when you can open with a wide aerial shot. I think the regulation has gone too far, especially for small ones that can’t do much damage if they fall.

Drones/quads have REALLY opened up cinematic opportunities for film makers/Hollywood. They now use drones/quads to film these sweeping aerial and landscape shots that before were time consuming, required specialized equipment and were cost prohibitive. Now amateurs and pro videographers can do it for next to nothing.
