Anyone have experience with drone cameras?

I have a friend that wants to get into drones and another that does professional drone photography for weddings, ads, etc. While talking to them, I started wondering that if I have a drone at one location and am generally not there, Could I fly the drone from across country without a HUGE outlay of cash?

The FAA requires that all drone operators maintain a visual line of sight with their drones at all times. This means that the operator must be able to see the drone with their own eyes, use binoculars or use a first-person view (FPV) device to maintain visual contact.

There are exceptions, but darn near impossible to obtain.

Does that mean every drone flyer obeys.....

In Europe - there is open category - for amateur flying drones - where You must always have drone in casual contact.

But there are also in Europe profesional courses & licenses for specific (STS 02) operations where You can fly drone WITHOUT eye contact (BVLOS – Beyond Visual Line of Sight) - licenses NSTS-05, NSTS-06, NTST-07..

DJI have remote LTE solutions. LTE dongle which inserts into drone and You can control drone over GSM LTE connection / range..

So technically You can control drone which is for example 100km from You.

Thank you! Lots of good info I will pass on and peruse.
Another friend has a cabin north of Houston that he hasn't been able to check out after the hurricane. We all have IP cameras that would give us some remote viewing ability but a remote drone could let us check for roof damage as an example. He said he is worried about one pine tree that is close enough to cause problems if it falls.

That link comes up as not available in my area (USA). I could see how if a drone was used with ill intent anyone in a 100km area could be suspect.

One could lose eyesight just flying up and down a river while enjoying a beer on your dock. Checking trotlines without leaving the camp! I looked at an agriculture drone for spraying crops to the tune of $24k. It would beat hiring a crop duster for relatively small plots.

DJI is the one I looked at. I think it was dronenerds.com that I saw the $24k price. To carry herbicide, pump and spray nozzles etc, that thing must be huge!
