Hey everybody,

I’ve been unable to connect to my app on wan. The UI3 works fine both lan and wan. When attempting to connect using the app on wan, the app just keeps giving me a constant “connecting” with the occasional “retrying”. The app does fine on LAN. All ip(s) are correct and the key “lookup at login” is ticked. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it. Changed versions of BI and restarted the computer. Any ideas?

How are you set up to access it via WAN? VPN? If so, is the local and remote IP address in the app set to the same internal IP address as appropriate for your LAN?
VPN. I believe the ip is appropriate for my lan. Same addresses both WAN and LAN worked yesterday. Both addresses are the same in BI. Both addresses work with the UI3. Only the LAN works with the app.

edit: “only lan access” is not checked. I deleted my username and password and re added it. I disabled my firewall in windows. Again, the app gives me a constant “connecting”.

So in the app (Home > Power button at top > Logout > Edit) are the IP address for the the LAN and WAN the same internal LAN IP address? If different, change them both to the same LAN IP.

Make sure that you have any port number required following the IP address after a colon (e.g., :1515 or whatever port used for BI).

If I change both the lan and wan to the same ip, I get a “retrying” when using with wifi off. I’ve been using the “lookup key at login” and that changes my wan as ZeroTier will change my wan ip.

Ahhh... didn't realize you're using ZeroTier. I've not used it for a long time and don't recall now how it sets up. If I remember right I think with it you have the BI server and client as ZeroTier peers directly so it does the IP addressing but I'm not sure what to tell you to use. Maybe change your title here to include ZeroTier. I know many here use it and someone probably can help.

Did something change from yesterday when it was working? Maybe try restarting ZeroTier on both sides and forcing the connection to be active somehow before launching the app. But if it were an issue with the VPN then I wouldn't think that UI3 would work. Though I have seen a difference between the app and UI3 with WireGuard's on-demand VPN connection. It picks up the browser as needing the VPN but doesn't see the attempt to connect by the app so it doesn't launch the VPN. I have to launch it and then the app. But that's a different deal and assuming that you didn't have to do that before so...

Thank you for your response. That’s where I’m at. UI3 (with wan ip) shouldn’t be working if I’m unable to get it to come up in the apps wan. NOW, IIRC when I clicked on my ui3 link (it’s ip is the wan and works) I used to be able to click on it on my wan or lan and it would work and now the ui3 ip only works on wan and the app only works on lan. I emailed Ken as I have no idea what’s up.

Is this the screen you’re referencing? Or, is there something else? If this is it, it didn’t work either. I guess windows updated. I thought I’d turned it off. Anyway, what’s done is done. UI3 works fine both ways. LAN is fine using the app. Wan still says “connecting”.

Indeed I did. I don’t think it’s ZT because I can access everything else. It’s got to be the bi machine or my phone. (I don’t have anyone else with the app that I can test it with.)

I had trouble with ZT where I had to keep logging into my online account and reauthorizing the machine. It would work for a while then stop again and I’d have to repeat the process. Eventually I got tired of it and switched over to another VPN.

I would too. The issue with that is that my UI3 works. However, ZT has recently (last couple of days?) updated its page. Now, I’m seeing three devices using the same ip which I’d never seen until yesterday. One is my bi machine, the other my phone and one other device all sharing the same ip. Edit: because they are on the same network. This doesn’t anything to do with my issue after disconnecting from wifi.

If I change my lan adapter to a wan ip, I’m able to view off of my lan. However, in doing this I lose the ability to view on my lan. It’s as if my wan box has no use. I guess I’ll leave it like that. At least I’ll be able to see my cameras when I’m away.

Edit:
using this number works on both lan and wan
