Hello,
I would like to exchange my Dahua IPC-HDBW3849R1-ZAS-PV for a better full color camera with a sensor of 1/1.2 or 1/1.8. do you have any recommendations ? How important is a camera with a motorized vari-focal lens ?

Do You have any street/garden light there at night?
If not (totally dark) - no camera will do Full Color.

In comparison to 3849 with small sensor any 5442-S3 model have much better night color performance. 4 mpx with super sensitive 1/1.8" sensor..

You can choose between many chassis (turret/bullet/dome), lenses (fixed 2.8/3.6/6.0mm or varifocal 2.8-12mm or tele varifocal 8-32mm) and colors (white/black)..

Varifocal model allow You to optically zoom-in at specified place (like access street, parking spot) without losing any details (like in digital zoom). There are two varifocal lines - normal ZE 2.8-12mm which offers zoom like 1-3x and tele Z4 8-12mm which offers tele zoom like 3x-9x..

You actual view looks bad - 50% area of view (picture) is covered by parking roof.. there is also a tree which covers access street. If something happens at access street (the only visible area), people there will be small (because of distance and lack of optical zoom) and hidden by tree.

In my opinion camera mounted on right should be overview camera (so very wide view), but this one should be zoomed at access street.. and if possible mounted little to the right (to have better view at access street).

Second possibility to mount (some) cameras lower (like under parking roof).

This is what night vision looks like for me. I only have the lantern there and otherwise a floodlight comes on when someone walks into the driveway. These areas marked in red are important to me. The other camera has this view on the street.

With this light in marked in red areas zoomed 5442-ZE-S3 will give color image and much better human/face/car details on access street (marked areas)..
5442-Z4E-S3 (tele zoom version) will give even better one due much more open aperture, but this model is only available as bullet and dome (no turret one) and it starts at 43 degree horizontal (so You can't take wide field of view like 90 degree in actual settings)...

So should I use the 5442-ZE-S3 instead? Do you happen to have a link to the camera?

That's full color cam...
It doesn't have IR (infrared) but white lights...
which normally no one are using because they are distracting and neighbors complains that cameras are directed in theirs homes/ways...

Especially in Germany where from what I known You have very strong CCTV rules (formally You can't record public areas/roads or neighbor plots/houses ;))..

They catch a more light comparing to 5442, but they have problems with shallow depth of field (aka Bokeh effect - Bokeh - Wikipedia) due very open aperture F1.0.

This is nice for artistic photography but not for cctv where You want to have everything sharp.

FullColor cams are using very high level of digital sharpening to hide this problem. But this creates a lots more problems like high level of digital noise. And gives a very digitally processed image..

3-4 year ago there was high fame for Full Colors cams (a new technology, better image at night).
Today with a new 5442-s3 which have much better performance comparing to original 5442 and works almost at the same level as FullColor 5449 but without FullColor cams problems they (5449) aren't so popular.

Okay, thank you very much for the extensive help. I'll find out the price of the camera. I will probably buy it from Alibaba, because it costs over €500 in Germany.

From Official Dahua distribution in Spain with 35% off for everything..

There is also Andy shop which sells Dahua OEM's (white boxes for selling under own brands) for much better prices.
the same HW, the same firmware, no restrictions like Chinese versions, Andy delivers to EU without tax/VAT, You must order by DM to @EMPIRETECANDY

Most of forum users are using Andy cams without problems for years and have good support from Andy.
5442 in Andy shop are called 54IR, FullColors cams are called Color4K (8mpx versions) or 549 (4 mpx)...

in case You will use Alibaba (or any other unofficial source like polish allegro.pl), ask always seller:

  • is that camera from Western/European or Chinese distribution?
  • can I upload to this camera new firmwares from dahuasecurity.com (Chinese version have blocked this functionality),
  • does this cam work with western Dahua NVR (Chinese cams don't) and western SmartPSS/DMSS apps,
  • how packaging look (it should be colorful plastic free packaging like:

I just got a price from the company in China and the camera would cost me 156 dollars. As I also need Airshield products I will probably order there.
However, production takes 1-2 months. I might also go for the IPC-HDBW5442H-Z4HE for my front door. Thank you very much for everything. Answer : Yes, S3 version. It's upgradeable with the new firmware and in English version. Can be used with NVR. Not Chinese version.

I want to buy the IPC-HDBW5442H-Z4HE for the front door. Do you think the horizontal degree of 43 degrees could be a problem? I also have the same 1/2.8 sensor camera hanging there.

You should avoid "Dome" cameras outdoors.
As the dome degrades it will cause problems with the picture.
Dirt and rain on the dome will also cause issues as well.

The better option is THIS

Message @EMPIRETECANDY directly to order.

But the camera would hang so low that someone could break or adjust it. That's why I want to have a dome camera there. So far, I haven't had any problems at this location.

8-32mm too narrow , just a fixed lens can work.
I had looked at this model. What I like is that the camera has two microphones so I can hear better at a distance. Given the distance and height, I need a camera that has an illumination distance of at least 50 meters upwards, right?
