Dog wifi camera

Hey all - I'm looking for a good camera to check in on my dog while I'm away, he stays in one room. I don't have or plan to use blue iris at this location, so I need something standalone that works well. I tried this amcrest
It's not performing very well, the app kind of sucks. When I get a notification for motion, I open the notification (iphone) and it just says "failed to connect". I can connect to it live, but that kind of defeats the purpose, as I might not see the motion notifcation for an hour, and the playback sucks. I DO have a good PNY class 10 MicroSD in it, so I'm not sure why it doesnt playback.

Any recommendations? I'm not opposed to using paying a monthly fee if it works flawlessly, or lets see what you guys can come up with? Doesn't have to necessarily be wifi either but its a plus.

Sadly, that is one of the recommended cameras we suggest for a non-critical application like checking in on a dog.

It works well with BI also.

Failed to connect sounds like it could be a network issue.

Dang. I figured since I can watch it live perfectly the storage was the issue. Changed SD cards, still just fails

I have two of the 2MP versions and MANY folks here use them as secondary cameras.

Are you sure you have the Record Destination info correct in the setup?

Are you connecting to it on local wifi or remote, and if remote, how? Using the P2P function on the camera or port forwarding out or VPN??

You can always sign up for Amcrest cloud and let them handle the recording and access

I have 2 of the IP2M-841's which is the 2MP/1080p version and they work VERY well with Blue Iris, even reasonably well wirelessly.

Are they connected wired or wirelessly at that location?
Are there several other devices using that same SSID (TV, thermostat, game machines, kids, etc.)
What are the ISP's download/upload speeds at that location?

No blue iris at this location. I am running wireless via the amcrest view pro app. There are a few wireless devices here yeah. It's fiber, 1000/1000

The Dahua dmss lite app is a free download. I was using it while I built my system, and it was ok for live viewing. View remotely via Tailscale? I don’t know if it will work with an amcrest camera, but try it.
